Do You Remember Your First Time?

Do you remember the first piece of erotic fiction you ever read?

I do.

At University, I took a course in sexual diversity studies. Censorship was on the syllabus. We studied the case of the Little Sister's Bookstore in Vancouver. As part of our studies, we were assigned to read a short work of erotica that appeared in one of the books stopped at the border.

The book was "Macho Sluts." The story was "The Surprise Party" by Pat Califia. It's about a lesbian who's picked up by three gay cops, and taken to a dirty hotel room to be subjected to an enema before they take her in every orifice.

To this day, Califia's story is one of the most intense works of erotic fiction I've ever had the sexual pleasure of reading. But that's not the only reason I remember it so specifically. It just so happens that when I read this story from my unassuming Printing House collection of essays and articles, I was sitting squished between two complete strangers on a city bus.

I remember glancing side to side, praying neither would look down and see the words on the page. Cunt. Cock. Blowjob. Leather. Yes, I was reading a school assignment, but Califia's work is no statistics textbook. This was hard-core stuff. Far beyond anything I've ever read since, and beyond anything I've written myself as a writer of LGBT erotica.

Looking back, I find it difficult to believe I'd never read a work of erotic fiction before University. Certainly, I'd seen pornography before then. Perhaps the intensity and situation surrounding Califia's story simply made it stick with me. Or, maybe my internal definition of erotica is too narrow. My grandmother, who is the greatest supporter of my career in erotic fiction, considers Gone With the Wind an erotic novel. Perhaps my generation is too over-exposed to view the hardness in anything soft.

But I leave you with my initial question: Do you remember the first piece of erotic fiction you ever read? And were you, like me, between strangers on a city bus at the time? For your sake, I hope not.

Bright Blessings,

Faithful John and the Dungeon Ravens

Holy Guacamole, Batman!

I have a new release...and it only costs £0.99!!!

Faithful John and the Dungeon Ravens from Xcite Books is a smoking-hot BDSM-dungeon adaptation of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale called "Faithful John" (Ever heard of it? No? Well, never mind. That part doesn't matter. What does matter is that it is a hot HOT read. Did I mention it was HOT? Yeah, that too.)

Faithful John and the Dungeon Ravens

The queen's untimely death leaves her son in charge of the brothel-like castle dungeon. Though her devoted servant, Faithful John, promised the queen he would keep the young man from the cursed Mistress Mei, nothing can divide royalty and young love. When the young king asks for her hand in marriage, she realizes her acceptance is a death sentence and says yes even so. Can Faithful John save Mistress Mei from her prescribed fate, or will his devotion see him turned to stone?

Extract from Faithful John and the Dungeon Ravens...

The king ventured a few steps toward her, leaning his elbow on a rung of the ladder. Mistress Mei’s aroma was heavy with spice, uplifted by the scent of oranges. When she breathed, her silk top rippled against her chest. Her dark nipples were hard and amply visible through the fabric. ‘What is your specialty?’

With one swift move, she grabbed his wrists and secured them above his head. ‘Bondage.’

The king looked all around in confusion. Even after all he’d seen in the dungeon, his innocence precluded a complete understanding of its appeal. What he required was some practical training.

‘Mistress Mei is an expert with that silk cord,’ Faithful John chimed in from his seat in the corner. ‘What have you got planned for the new king?’

With his hands above his head, his regal jacket rode up almost to his nipples. Tearing his trousers down to his knees, she revealed a fully erect cock eager for human contact. Mei inched forward until the silk of her skirt nearly brushed his drooling cockhead. ‘Back up,’ she instructed. He moved cautiously back until his heel met the wooden ladder. ‘Step up one rung, then another, and stand very still.’

Again he followed instructions, despite the trepidation of climbing backwards up a ladder with his hands tied above his head. Once in position, Mistress Mei began the wild bondage. She circled the soft silk rope around his middle, securing it with knots along the way.

‘The knots are pressing into your pleasure centres,’ she informed him. ‘As they push into you, your brain releases waves of bliss throughout your body.’

‘Mistress Mei could tie you up, leave you to your own devices, and you could bring yourself to orgasm simply by breathing,’ Faithful John went on. The Mistress reached up to wrap her black rope around the king’s extended arms.

‘Yes, I feel it,’ King Edward sighed as a soft breeze like the breath of angels travelled his body. His core felt warm and glowing, easing the grief in his heart and slowing his mental faculties. ‘I’ve never been so calm in all my life.’

Faithful John and the Dungeon Ravens (hey, sounds like a heavy metal band name, doesn't it?)
Buy it now! It's cheap and satisfying...just like me!

2. What are you reading right now?

"Death Masks" -- book five in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, "Night Shift" by Lilith Saintcrow, "Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies" by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith... and I think that's all right now. It's not unusual for me to have five books on the go at once.

3. I hear music in the background. What' s playing?

VNV Nation's entire discography, Jethro Tull from 1968 to 1978 or so, The Beatles, and Lady Gaga.

4. Do you have a favourite naughty word?

Bastard.

5. Is there a word or phrase that absolutely makes you cringe?

Moist. And vagina. And oh man those are two words that I shouldn't have written on one line like that.

6. Be honest: what are you snacking on?

Coffee. I'm not much of a snacker, really. But I love coffee.

Promo time! Flog your wares. Any exciting new releases? How can readers find out more about you and your work?

My three short stories are available through Torquere Press ( http://www.torquerebooks.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=201&main_page=index ). Two of them are on Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Morgan-Ferdinand/e/B002QW1PBI/ref=sr_tc_2_0 ) . Fanfiction and other miscellaneous writing can be found on LiveJournal at http://ninefics.livejournal.com.

Moist? Now there's a word I've heard before! In my post Let's Get MOIST from last August, I talked about a linguistics study that concluded the word MOIST is the most hated word in the English language. You're not alone!
Cheers,
Giselle

AnthologyBuilder: This is Really Cool

Have you heard of AnthologyBuilder?

It's the kind of site you could end up spending half the night browsing for images and stories. I speak from experience. What's it all about? AnthologyBuilder allows you to build your own anthology (haha...just like the title says! clever.) choosing from hundreds of stories from all sorts of publications, from Romance to Sci Fi (sorry, no erotica *tear*). These are all published works, so you know you're getting quality.

Here's how it works:
  • You visit the website at AnthologyBuilder.com
  • Choose cover art for your book (like the image I've posted with this blog entry)
  • Select stories to fill your book
  • Order your book (I hate to sound like Vince for ShamWow, but it's only $14.95 and that ain't bad considering you get to put together a collection of all stories you want to read!)
Anyway, the reason I tell you all this is that my lesbian romance story Beginning Badly is available for inclusion in your AnthologyBuilder anthology! Whenever readers include my work in their anthos, I'm paid royalties for it, so I'm very excited to be involved with this site.

Hope you'll consider creating an AnthologyBuilder anthology of your own!

Cheers!
All my love,
Giselle Renarde

Quick Six Interview with I.D. Locke

1. Hey there! Thanks for joining me at Donuts & Desires. First off, would you be so kind as to tell us what type of stories you write?

IDL: I write m/m erotica. The genre goes from contemporary to sci-fi/fantasy to future fic. It just depends on what cast of characters I'm playing with at any given time.

2. What are you reading right now?

IDL: Mostly fanfic and a few for-free online stories.

3. I hear music in the background…what's playing?

IDL: Digging Our Own Graves by Painbastard is just starting. What The fuck Is Wrong With You? by Combichrist was playing when I first started typing these responses. I listen to digitalgunfire.com at work and they play EBM (electronic body music) which is my music style of choice.

4. Do you have a favourite naughty word?

IDL: Probably fuck.

5. Is there a word or phrase that absolutely makes you cringe?

IDL:I really dislike the word cunt and almost never use it.

6. Be honest: What are you snacking on?

IDL: I just finished some kettle-cooked jalapeño chips as a bowl of Mini Wheats just doesn't go far enough in the morning.

Any new releases? Anything to shout about?

I don't have any new releases (say in the last two weeks or so) although my latest one to come out a month or so ago was Slave To The blood (a novelette). I still have Blind Desire (a novel) and Flying Lead Change (a short story in the Creatures of Legend Taste Test) as well. Of those, Slave To The Blood is set in a future time with created species of mine, Blind Desire is set in a slightly AU present day Earth and Flying Lead Change is set in the past during King Aurthur's time.

Thanks for the interview! I almost forgot today was Monday (and hence interview-posting day here at D&D) since it is in fact a holiday here in Ontario. Three years ago, the government implemented something called "Family Day." At first I was kind of like WTF? about it, but I've changed my tune this year. I've decided it's a perfect opportunity to be thankful that we Canadians can marry anybody we love regardless of gender, and raise families or adopt children if we so choose. It's good to be Canadian.
Anyway, that's my excuse for posting at the 11th hour.
Thanks again,
Giselle

Sweet's Big Juicy Slab of Meat

The meal Sweet prepared for me looked so beautiful I made her take a picture. Here it is! If you're looking for the "big juicy slab of meat," it's hidden under the mushrooms. (There are so many jokes I could make about my trans girlfriend hiding a big juicy slab of meat...but I won't go there.) Anyway, her steak was the best I've ever tasted. (What's so funny about that?) Oh, I'm being bad today. Sweet? Honey? I need a spanking!

Until next year,
Happy Valentine's Day!

What Converted this Valentine’s Day Resistor?

I used to be as strong a V-Day resistor as I was a radical feminist. I thought it was a cruel pseudo-holiday (no, no, no…I didn’t say “cool super-holiday”) created by Corporate America to make lovers into consumers. Think of all the stuff we’re supposed to buy our girlfriends on V-Day: a dozen roses to go with two dozen chocolates, an expensive meal in a fancy restaurant, and a tiny slip of lingerie she's supposed to squeeze herself into after eating all this! Over and above the big items, we're supposed to buy a piece of cardboard claiming the capacity to speak our feelings for us.

It all seemed so false to me. In many regards it still does. I don’t think it’s right for the social Powers That Be to dictate what we must buy for our partners and when. I also think it’s pretty ridiculous that we condone the pouty behaviour of those who get suicidal over lack of a date or not getting a nice enough gift. I guess I have the same anti-commercial complaints a lot of people have about Christmas. There’s too much pressure on people to produce spectacular gifts. In a sense, Valentine’s Day is a lover’s Christmas.

Now that I’m part way through this blog entry, I’m asking myself if my title is a lie. Am I truly a convert or am I just putting on a show because I happen to have a Valentine’s e-book on the market? (Ooh…did Giselle really say that?) Yes she did. And why? Because if you scrap the commercial aspect of the holiday, I really do like everything V-Day stands for.

Sex. Love. Romance. Communication. Trust. Relationships.

These are topics I write about every day. You know I love sex, love my girlfriend, and love love itself. My Sweet and I have a good thing going. We celebrate our relationship every day, even when we’re at each other’s throats (and I don’t mean erotic asphyxiation—we’re not into that sort of thing). We tend to have aligned views on most matters.

All the same, I cringed when I asked her views on Valentine’s Day. I was completely prepared for her to say, “You’d better have something spectacular planned.” She didn’t—thank god! I can’t afford enough gifts to express in material objects how very special she is to me. Luckily, I have other ways of communicating how much I cherish her. I have my words, and my art, and my body. How could any object made out there in world of factories express my love better than I can express it myself?

Now to answer to my initial question. What converted this Valentine’s Day resistor? Is it corny to say the love of a good woman? I’ve realized that V-Day can be taken as a wonderful opportunity for partners to express their mutual, ongoing love. It can be a day to connect or reconnect. It’s an opportunity to show and tell a partner the great impact they’ve had on our lives.

With or without a partner, Valentine’s Day is also an opportunity to meditate on love itself. There are infinite sources of love in this world. Love doesn’t come solely from romantic partners. We must love ourselves before we can truly love anybody else or accept love from them. Remember, the longest of long-term relationships is the one we have with ourselves.

So, above all else, show yourself some love this Valentine’s Day.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Reading is Sexy on Valentine's Day

Read a sexy scene from your favorite novel to each other. Just a paragraph or two can pave the way to some smoking hot sex, especially if you decide to role play as your favorite characters. Important tip: no giggling over the dirty words, and no substituting the word “rooster” for the more common four-letter description.

Have a great and romantic Valentine’s Day!

My Romantic Plans for a Valentine's Day On the Cheap

Sweet and I are going the inexpensive route to make each other feel special this year. She's always wanted a manicure and pedicure, so I'm hauling the footbath out of the cupboard. I'll give her a nice little foot massage (I love her adorable little toes!) before giving her the new bottles of nail polish I picked up. I'll treat her like a queen, doing her nails, and while they dry we'll watch any movie she wants (and that includes episodes of Stargate SG-1 on DVD-which, honestly, is probably what we'll end up with LOL).

When her nails are set, shimmery and hard, I'm going to let her (get ready for this one!) pick out an outfit for me to wear and (gasp!) do my makeup! I don't wear makeup or fancy clothes, but I know she likes to see me femme it up once in a while with a little lipstick and a skirt. Anything for love!

Sweet's the cook, so she's making us dinner. I like the idea of sitting down to a beautifully set table (as they always are with Sweet's appreciation of the sublime) and knowing when she looks across it she'll see me at my best. If her heart melts as mine does every time I look at her, the day will be divine and the night will be wicked!

Happy Valentine's Day!
