Cougar or Not, Here Comes COUGAR'S EVE!

Happy New Year's Eve!

Some of you probably have big plans for tonight. I know I do! But I realize you aren't all lucky enough to have brothers willing to share their new jigsaw puzzles with you while staring at the Netflix screen and doing the whole "What do you want to watch?" "I don't know. What do you want to watch?" routine.

For you, there's COUGAR'S EVE.

Cougar's Eve is a book about a robot jungle cat trying to make it in the big city. Just kidding! It's about a resort where older women hook up with younger men (and the pretty receptionist too, if they're lucky) on New Year's Eve.

If you're looking for a book to share New Year's Eve because your brother's hogging all the puzzle pieces, you can buy Cougar's Eve as an ebook or in print from such retailers as:

I hate myself a bit right now...

...and here's why:

I think I've been unconsciously downplaying the queer content in my books recently. That's not cool, and thus the self-hatred. But I know why I've been doing it, even if I've been doing it without meaning to do it. I keep getting subtle whispers in my ear that romance readers don't like bisexual women. Bad, bad, yucky, uncomfortable!

I've let those whispers get to me and it's impacted the way I market my books--but not anymore, baby! I'm here, I'm queer and you're used to it, but from now on I'll make a concerted effort to show the reading public my books are queer too.

If some readers don't like bisexual women, queer women, trans women, lesbian women or genderfucked assholes like me, they'd better steer clear of my writing. The end.

Cougar's Eve ebook cover
After that sickly sweet introduction, let me say: Cougar's Eve is a NYE novella about two middle-aged women attending a wild cougar party at a luxury resort (though one is very reluctant and there is some mild trickery involved in getting her there). Lori's all for this hooking-up-with-younger-men scene. Trish hasn't been with a man since her husband left her, and that was forever ago.

Maybe Trish will meet a special young man who will turn her world upside-down. Or maybe it'll be a special young woman. Or maybe it'll be two guys and Trish will be upside-down. Or maybe she'll have one guy behind her and a gorgeous girl working her front...

I'll leave it to your imagination.

Just kidding! Here are seven paragraphs of Trish being seduced by Raye the receptionist.

Avert your eyes if you don't like bisexual women...

Spreading her shirt wide open, Raye traced her fingertips across Trish’s bare skin. Trish hadn’t been touched this way in so many years… so many, many, many years.

“This is a pretty bra,” Raye said, gently touching the borders. “Simple cream-coloured lace. It’s classic.”

“Thank you,” Trish replied.

“Can I take it off?”

What?”

With a sly smile, Raye said, “I want to look at your breasts. I want to see them naked.”

A blast of heat spread across Trish’s skin, but she said nothing.

Have A Poly Jolly Christmas with this #Spicy #Holiday #Romance!

This book not only has a new cover, but a new name.

It was originally published in 2010 as ALL THE WAY. I really wanted a title that shouted "threesome!" from the rooftops, but nothing came to mind immediately.  Then, last week, my partner and I went to a neighbourhood carol-singing thingy in a nearby park. The first song on the roster was Holly Jolly Christmas.

As I was falling asleep that night, it came to me: Poly Jolly Christmas! Perfect!

Finding the right cover image was another story. I spent days looking for the right stock photo.  I looked at a ton of Christmas-themed vectors too, because that look is very popular in romance and rom-com covers right now. But nothing.

The characters in this book are a Black woman, white man, and Asian man. I didn't even try looking for an image with that combination of individuals, because I figured I'd never find it. I thought I'd go with something subtly representative of the number three that also had to do with Christmas.

I spent hours looking at stock photos on Sunday. I was about to give up when the word "throuple" popped into my head--like couple, but three. So I searched that on a stock photo site where I have a lot of credits and only ONE image came up in the search results.

It was PERFECT. Kismet. I added some holly to make it Christmassy, and voila!

When Josie invites her high school sweetheart Kaz to stay over for the holidays, there are a few things she doesn't anticipate: Kaz admitting he's never been with a woman after all these years? That's a surprise. Her husband Rob's attempt to give Kaz a little training in the hot tub? A very sexy surprise! But after the married couple treats Kaz to the best nights of his life, who will he end up with when the holidays are through?

Previously published as “All the Way.”

Valentine's Day Ideas for Fun, Food and Romance During Covid

Here in Toronto, we're locked down and under stay-at-home orders. How will we be romantic without leaving the house?

Just a few ideas:

1. Try New and Different Sex Stuff

I don't know about you, but I've got plenty of ideas I keep meaning to put into practise. When it comes right down to it, though, my partner and I usually resort to the same-old-same-old. Not that it's bad! It's good stuff, I swear, it's just that it's easy to fall into a pattern. Valentine's Day at home presents us with a great opportunity to shake things up.

2. Massage Your Person

If you're celebrating V-Day with a partner, try giving each other massages.  This could be sexual or not sexual or a bit of both.  The only time my partner has ever fallen asleep during sex is the time I poured oil all over him and gave him a cock massage. He found it so relaxing he was out like a light.

3. On-Demand Sexy Skills Webinars

Whether you're going solo this Valentine's Day or you're spending it with someone special, check out these on-demand webinars from sex and pleasure educator Luna Matatas. I've attended Luna's webinars and they are fun, informative, and welcoming to all genders. There are plenty to choose from, including Dirty Talk Skills, Hotter Handjobs, Delicious Dominance Skills, and Seducing the Butt.

4. Ruby Waters Digital Concert (and Dinner, if you're in Toronto!)

Thanks to Crow's Theatre in Toronto, you can purchase digital tickets to listen to the sultry tones of Ruby Waters this Valentine's Day. If you're in the city, you can also opt to purchase a fancy-ass dinner that will be delivered to you. Find out more here: https://www.crowstheatre.com/whats-on/view-all/dinner-and-a-show-ruby-waters

5. Write an Erotic Letter

Writing your fantasies down on paper is an especially useful communication tool for those who have trouble expressing their wants and needs verbally. If you've got someone special to write to, great! If you don't, no problem--you can still write to that dream lover. This is an especially great idea for anyone who can't be in the same room with a partner due to pandemic restrictions.

6. Make Homemade Cards

I loved crafty stuff when I was a kid, and I still love crafty stuff as an adult. Wasn't it fun as heck to make homemade cards for your classmates? Break out the doilies and the scented markers, because it's time to draw some hearts.

7. Exercise Together

Release those endorphins by exercising together! I can tell you from experience that it really builds a bond. Take a hike if you like, or find an exercise routine online you can try together. And if you're just you, do it to it! It's icy outside, so I do a lot of walking videos online. You don't even need a lot of space, and I always work up a sweat.

8. Breakfast in Bed

The early bird bakes the bread. Or cooks the bacon. Or butters the toast. No matter the makeup of your household, if you get up first, treat your people to a special brekkie. If you don't live with anyone else, you can always bring breakfast back to bed. Who's gonna stop you?

9. Bake Something Sweet

I love baking. I find it to be such an indulgent activity, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my baked goods with the people I love. Bake with your household, or bake on your own and drop off your sweet stuff at the homes of family and friends who haven't seen in a while in a contact-free way.

10. Get Cooking, Good-Looking!

If your household usually takes turns cooking dinner, do it together this Valentine's Day. All hands on deck! And if you live alone, you could cook virtually with friends or family. Technology is our friend.

11. Play Games

My partner and I play cards and board games all the time, and it always makes me feel like I'm on vacation. It's nerdy good fun. Being a word person, I happen to love Scrabble and Boggle and crossword puzzles, but I can also recommend cribbage--a game I learned as an adult--and poker, which I played as a child, odd as it seems. My grandmother used to play Scrabble online against her internet friends, so there are lots of virtual options, too!

12. Read a Book

I'm not just saying this because I'm a writer and I want you to buy my books--I also think it's a great and unusual recommendation for Valentine's Day. This idea came to mind because my partner was telling me that, when he was a kid, he wasn't allowed to read at the table. BUT there were some days he would come home for lunch and his mother would ask him, "Would you like to read today?" and he would eagerly nod yes.  He has fond memories of the two of them sitting at the table together, reading their books in silence, and enjoying every minute of it. Kind of cute, right?

Just because restaurants aren't open doesn't mean we can't enjoy a romantic Valentine's Day during a pandemic. Remember, you can still support local restaurants by buying take-out or delivery.

Whether you're spending Valentine's Day with yourself, a partner, or an entire household--and whether you're looking to spend a little money, a lot of money, or none at all--I hope a few of my ideas will appeal to you and make it a little easier to plan a romantic occasion without too much planning in advance.

Love you!

Giselle

Congratulations! You've Discovered the Mother's Day Depression Post!

The more I write about grief and depression, the more followers I lose. So why do I do it? Why do something that seems, on the surface, pretty bad for my writing career? Because I'm finally realizing there's truth to that old saying I never used to believe: if your work helps just one person, it's worth doing. Even if fair-weather fans bail, I'm here for YOU, you dear, darling ONE person who needs this post.

Yes, it might be a bummer! Read it if you want, don't if you don't. I'm not forcing anyone. Do what's right for you.

I want to talk about Mother's Day, because it's tomorrow, and it's on my mind.

As you probably know, my grandmother died six months ago. My cousin died just a couple months before her. I think that's all the background you need.

This'll be the first Mother's Day since my grandma's death, and it's hitting me hard. Not just my grandmother's absence (and I do miss her hugely), but the feeling that my family is disintegrating without her. She was the glue. She was the matriarch. Without her, how do we hold together?

For the past ten or twenty years, the whole family's been assembling at my grandmother's house on Mother's Day. It was never a planned event, like Christmas and Grandma's birthday, which were the other two occasions on which you could be sure to see all the aunts, uncles, cousins, babies. Everybody just sort of showed up at Grandma's house because she was the mother of the family. Where else would we spend Mother's Day?

My grandmother never wanted a "final resting place." She didn't believe in that sort of thing. So she doesn't have one. I really wish she did, because I want to visit her, especially on a day like Mother's Day. Although, that's the whole reason she didn't want a gravesite: she wouldn't be there, so why would we waste our time going there to see her?

Why? Because there's nowhere else to go...

I watched this TV show called Seatbelt Psychic, where a ride share driver who is also a medium does readings while he's driving people places. One thing he said was that our dead loved ones are always around us. It really upset me to hear that, because all I could think was: if they're around me, why can't I feel them?

I can never feel them. All I feel is alone.

Perhaps I shouldn't feel alone. I do have family. I have my mother and my siblings. That's who I'll be spending Mother's Day with. And I do feel fortunate, especially as a queer person, to have a solid relationship with my family. I know I'm lucky to have more siblings than a lot of people do, these days. A big family is nice. That's why I want to spend special occasions with my many, many aunts and uncles and cousins and their children.

After the death of my cousin this summer, I found out that he looked forward to our family gatherings as much as I did. They were a high point on his calendar. You make so many assumptions about other people's lives, you know? You assume they've got all this cool stuff going on. I'm sure people think that about me, too, that I've got this cool queer life doing cool queer stuff. The truth is that I look forward to returning library materials. I look forward to chatting with friendly cashiers. I don't have much going on, and depression steals your will to seek out new things to do.

My cousin was depressed. That's something else I didn't know about him. I didn't know that until after he died.

Sweet asked why I don't organize a big family event for Mother's Day, if I want one so badly. It's a nice idea, but it would have required more energy than I currently have available. Took me two weeks just to pin down my siblings. Maybe next year I'll be more emotionally stable. Maybe then I'll be able to take initiative. Then again, part of me just wants to be a kid (a 40-year-old kid...) who shows up at the party and doesn't have to do any of the organizing.

I love my family. I don't want us to fall apart. But, my mental health being what it is, I don't know how to keep us together.

Christmas is over for many of us, but for some of you excessively jolly folks, the festive season never ends.

If this is the case for you, or you just don't want to let go of the holidays quite yet, why not have a listen to the audio version of my story ONE WILD CHRISTMAS PARTY?

This story was originally published in a print anthology as HEAD TO MISTLETOE, but when I did the audio version I wanted a more in-your-face title, or at least one that was a bit more keyword-y.

Swinging, swapping, spankings and novelty undies! This year, Ravinia's Christmas party is the hottest ticket in town.

Listen to ONE WILD CHRISTMAS PARTY, written and read by me, by following one of these links or finding the audiobook at some other retailer or subscription service (you should be able to find this baby all over the damn place)...

Did you miss me? (And the big Smashwords sale I forgot to mention...)

I missed you.

That sounds like something cheesy a rock star would say (“I’m nothing without my fans!”), but the truth is that when I’m away from the internet, I miss sharing my life via blog posts and twitter. I miss interactions with my fellow authors. I miss YOU.

I was at the cottage with my fambly last week, which got me thinking about a book I published a couple years ago: A WEEK IN THE WOODS WITH FAMILY. I regret to inform you that it's not taboo incest erotica. So sorry. In fact, it's not erotica at all. It consists of a series of correspondences I penned to my girlfriend while I was away on a family vacation.

Throughout the month of July, you can get A WEEK IN THE WOODS WITH FAMILY absolutely FREE at Smashwords using coupon code SFREE. If you enjoy a good behind-the-scenes look at an author's life, this is the book for you: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/650981?ref=GiselleRenardeErotica

I thought I'd already blogged about Smashwords' big July sale, but turns out I haven't. I scheduled a bunch of tweets about it--that's what I did. My mind is muddled from all that clean cottage air.

So, pretty much my entire catalogue is on sale right now. You get discounts by using coupon codes. The coupon codes are listed on each book's page, on the right-hand side of the screen, under the buy/add to library/give as gift buttons.

I'll call your attention especially to BISEXUAL BEACH READS, which is 50% off with coupon code SSW50: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/644898?ref=GiselleRenardeErotica

That's a really good deal for 6 erotic novels and novellas in one collection.

You can scroll though my books and Lexi's here: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/GiselleRenardeErotica but the sucky thing is that sale prices don't show on that list. You have to actually click onto each book individually to see which coupon is in effect. But it's Monday afternoon and, if you've got a boring job (or you're a master procrastinator like me), you might just have some time to waste.

So yeah. Waste some time with me: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/GiselleRenardeErotica

p.s. i love you

Thank You for Giving

https://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-don039tyousavagemeexplicitlesbianromancefeaturingaboriginalwomen-1555778-166.html
I thought I was referencing a movie title in my subject line. Turns out my memory is terrible and the movie I'm actually thinking of is called Please Give. Kind of at the opposite end of the scale, although maybe Please Give would be a better blog title. Or maybe Thank You for Giving and Please Give More would be appropriate.

Year-end means donation time for a lot of people, myself included.  I just finished my quarterly accounting for the charitable anthologies I've produced and set that money free. Fly, little monies! Fly away home!

https://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-lgbtlove10queertransbilesbianandgayromancestories-1894075-166.htmlBut, honestly, I couldn't do it without you. If I'd put out LGBT LOVE and nobody had purchased a copy, I wouldn't have been able donate 100% of my royalties to helplines that serve queer people, young and old. If nobody bought Don't You Savage Me, I wouldn't be able to donate 100% of those royalties to organizations that serve Indigenous women in Canada.

Without you, these would just be books. With you, they serve the populations they depict. I really can't thank you enough. I could thank you a thousand times and it wouldn't be enough.

And I thank you, also, for purchasing my Erotic Poetry Adult Colouring Book, which only came out last week but has sold surprisingly well.  This December, all the royalties I earn from the Erotic Poetry Colouring Book go to http://sketch.ca/

In fact, the Erotic Poetry Colouring Book has done so well that I've turned my flash fiction anthology Flash in the Pen into an adult colouring book, too. It's full of short erotica and barenaked ladies! I've decided to donate all my December royalties from the Flash in the Pen Adult Colouring Book to Sketch as well. Sketch provides street-involved youth and young people living on the margins space and programming to create stuff like music and art. That's awesome, and this new flash fiction colouring book is also awesome, so buy a copy!

Here's that link again: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/152280014X?tag=dondes-20 It just came out today, so show it a little love!

If you can't buy a copy, how about using those social media buttons on the Amazon page to tweet about it, pin it on Pinterest, or share it on Facebook? That would be helpful and I'd appreciate it tremendously. Just like I appreciate YOU tremendously. Love, love, love! All you need is love and adult colouring books!

Hugs,
Giselle

Canadians Can Be Thankful

https://www.createspace.com/4521764

Got a nice bit of news yesterday, which was Monday of the Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. I planned to share it last night, but, due to a turkey-induced food coma, I fell asleep on the couch.

But I'm partially awake now, so here is the news I received from CreateSpace:

Hello,

Starting October 8, we began making CreateSpace titles enrolled in the Amazon.com sales channel available directly to readers in Canada on Amazon.ca. Your title may already be offered on Amazon.ca through Expanded Distribution or other channels, but now you can earn the same royalty on Amazon.ca that you would earn for a sale on Amazon.com.

You can expect to see a title enrolled in the Amazon.com sales channel on Amazon.ca in 30 days. [...]

Best regards,
The CreateSpace Team

What does this mean for YOU (assuming you're Canadian)? It means print versions of my books will now be available directly via the Canadian Amazon site.

I know this sounds like "so what?" news, so I'll tell you why it matters to me.

A couple years ago, when I published my award-winning trans lesbian novel The Red Satin Collection at CreateSpace, a library system in New Brunswick expressed interest in carrying the book. The problem was that they purchased their books at Amazon.ca (which was a surprise to me--I thought all libraries purchased through special secret library-only channels) and The Red Satin Collection was not available for purchase at Amazon.ca. For whatever reason, they couldn't buy from the .com site or any other channels.

When you're an author who starts self-publishing (especially when you began your career in a small press world), suddenly you're thrust into handling all aspects of your own little publishing business. And sometimes you don't know what the hell you're doing.

In this instance, I contacted CreateSpace and asked how this library could go about purchasing the book at Amazon.ca. In the end, I couldn't solve the problem. Now, two years later, CreateSpace has solved it. They're making print books available at the Canadian site.

Why it took so long... well, don't ask me. I still find this business baffling. But, in true Thanksgiving tradition, I'm grateful that Canadians will now be able to purchase my paperbacks more easily.

2015: The Year of Queer

One parade I wasn't late for.
Always late to every parade (if I show up at all), here I am with my New Year's Resolution!

For decades I never bothered with them. I've only just started back up. Last year's was stupid. I vowed to name all my characters after TTC subway stops. Well, by the time I'd finished replacing real people's real names with fake ones in Like It's 1999: Diary of a Teenager in Love with a Teacher, I'd pretty much used them all up. That was in February.

This year's is a good one.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I disappointed myself in 2014.  There were a few times I forced my characters to be straight when they weren't.  That probably sounds weird.  I'm the author.  I should be able to control every aspect of my characters' personalities... but, strangely, that's not how it works. Characters are real people--well, real fake people who only live in my head until I write them down.

A few times in 2014 I was working on books where, for one reason or another, I felt like readers were going to want my characters to be straight. Readers wouldn't like it if this girl was bi. Readers don't like bisexual women. Readers don't like lesbians. Readers don't like this, don't like that--keep it on the straight and narrow.  I had a lot of voices whispering in my ear that I wish I hadn't listened to, because I feel that I betrayed myself in doing so.

No more of that.

In 2015, no character will get shoved in the closet.

The readers I want are the readers who want me. My work has always appealed to people who are a little different. I couldn't appeal to the mainstream if I tried. I know that... because I've tried. And failed. I don't enjoy writing books that aren't me for a market I don't understand, so it's a lose-lose-lose-lose-lose situation.  Everybody everywhere loses.

That's why I hereby proclaim 2015 The Year of Queer. You can look forward to unapologetically queer books from me, like:

  • EVERYBODY KNOWS: a second anthology of heartfelt transgender erotica (trust me, it's going to be AMAZING! Even better than My Mistress' Thighs),
  • SAPPHIC CONFESSIONS: a book of lesbian confessions much like "Secret Confessions" but all lesbian, all the time!
  • GETTING IT ON THE GO: a mini-collection of gay public sex stories that's secretly available in print right now but shhh nobody knows so keep quiet about it...
  • THE OTHER SIDE OF RUTH: a later-in-life lesbian novel I've been working on for the past five years. If you've read the Audrey and Lawrence series, you'll remember Lawrence had a wife called Ruth. Well, while he's busy cheating on her with a much younger woman, "The Other Side of Ruth" is his wife's side of the story. She's not so innocent either. There is a certain neighbour girl...

And that's just the stuff that's already written!  There will be more. I'm in my ninth year as a professional writer. Trust me, I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

2015 is going to be exciting, so stay tuned.

Pride!
