The thrill of romance is something not too far from fear. The unknown sends a shiver down our spines, much more so when it's truly otherworldly.

In Josephine Myles' "In the Greenwood", woodland spirit Mirabelle falls in love with lonely artist Jay, but they cannot touch. She sets out to find Jay a friend -- and if she is brave enough, she might find something for herself, too. "Said the Spider to the Fly," by ND Drake, is about Elijah and Jamie, vampires and soulmates. When a woman sitting in a café captures Elijah's attention, Jamie is jealous, but soon discovers there is joy in the hunt.

In "Jolene," Giselle Renarde's heroine throws a bash to show off her new lover. When Wesley shows up with a boyfriend, all three are sucked into a situation beyond imagining. "Changeling," by JL Merrow shows that identities are fluid when Meg sets her heart on a boy who isn't who he says he is. Will the faerie queen unravel the riddle for the humans in her clutches?

Finally, in BA Tortuga's "Moasi," Tom has only weeks to live unless he accepts the offer of the mysterious healer Pax to abandon everything and find a cure. When Tom's wife, Jenn, shows up with divorce papers and a gun in hand, only Pax can guess how this scorned woman will ravish them all.

In Taken, five authors explore what it means to lose yourself in love.

About my story "Jolene"

Jolene, Jolene,

Jolene, Jolene,

I’m begging of you,

Please don’t take my man.

Dolly Parton. We all know this song—it’s one of the greats—but have you ever heard “Jolene” covered by the White Stripes? Sorry, Dolly, but Jack White takes the cake! What I love most about the White Stripes’ cover is that Jack doesn’t bother with the old pronoun switcheroo we so often encounter in cover versions. Generally, a male vocalist singing a song like this one would change the lyrics to something along the lines of,

Joseph, Joseph,

Joseph, Joseph,

I’m begging of you,

Please don’t take my woman.

Jack White doesn’t go that route. He sings the song as written. He begs Jolene not to take his man. And, let me tell you, to hear one man singing with such affection and deep heartbreak about another is indescribably powerful. (And, since it’s indescribable, you can experience it for yourself by watching the White Stripes perform Jolene in concert on their website: http://www.whitestripes.com/video)

The idea of a woman stealing one man from another was the spark that inspired my MMF ménage story, “Jolene.” In writing, sometimes ideas go topsy-turvy, and at the end of the day I ended up with a male incubus stealing innocent Jolene’s boyfriend. Nevertheless, the spirit of Jack White’s performance stayed with this story to the end, and gave it a haunting edge.

Hugs,
Giselle

Quick Six TNG with Fabian Black

1. What does "vanilla" mean to you?

Delicious dairy ice cream, long black pods with a gorgeous scent that I stick in the sugar canister and non-kinky fiction and sex, not necessarily in that order.

2. Is there any moment from your life that you remember in slow motion?

The place, year, month, date and time of a nervous breakdown I suffered. I can still recall how I felt in those moments when my life fell apart, but things after that are a blur, in fact there are days I don’t remember at all.

3. What's the most unsettling movie you've ever seen?

The Elephant Man with John Hurt. I found the story of Joseph Merrick to be heartbreaking. I couldn’t get it out of my head for days afterwards. That poor intelligent young man imprisoned within his own body and subjected to such cruelties and indignities.

4. If you had to get a tattoo on your face, what would you want it to look like?

Although I do love tattoos I don’t like to see them on the face. If I HAD to get one then I’d choose a gothic angel or something of that ilk because I’m fascinated with angels.

5. How many monkeys jumping on the bed?

None I hope. I truly don’t like monkeys. I don’t know why, but they give me the heebie jeebies and I am absolutely terrified of chimpanzees. I don’t even like looking at pictures of them.

6. Which of the books or stories you've written is your favourite?

I think probably ‘Moving On’ is my favourite because it contains some cathartic elements for me personally, and also because I’m rather fond of Thomas, the strict, eccentric but essentially kindhearted Dom in the story. He enjoys collecting and quoting proverbs. It was fun finding proverbs to suit different circumstances.

Blurb:

A visit to a Sunday morning car boot sale has unhappy repercussions for Andrew. He comes face to face with an object from his past, something he never thought he’d see again. Bad memories begin to resurface with a vengeance.

Driven by guilt and self-loathing he leaves his authoritarian partner Thomas and takes flight in order to avoid confronting his fears.

Thomas isn't the kind of man to just quietly accept his young lover’s disappearance. He sets out to find Andrew and help make him face up to his demons.

Get Ready to be "Taken"

I'm very excited about this new anthology. It's called "Taken" and it's the upcoming MMF ménage collection from BBA/Torquere Press. This baby's got a paranormal theme, and my contribution is of the incubus/incubus/succubus variety. ;-)

Jolene isn't too troubled--except by the fact that none of her friends believe she's dating Wesley, the popular and assumedly gay entertainment blogger. When she throws herself a birthday bash to show Wesley off to her friends, he shows up with his "boyfriend" Seth. Jolene is beyond perplexed. Who is this Seth guy and when did he arrive on the scene? And why is Wesley acting so strangely? When her friend Anoush falls ill after dreaming of the pair, it's Anoush's grandmother who has the answers: they're dealing with an incubus, and somebody needs to hunt him down. Jolene will go after Seth--anything for Wesley.

I hope you'll enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it (and re-reading it LOL). Torquere anthos are always first-rate, so I'm sure you'll just love it.

"Taken" comes out Wednesday October 27th, 2010.

My threesome stories have appeared in three other BBA (BareBack Angels, Torquere's bisexual/ménage imprint) collections. If you can't wait for "Taken" be sure to check out "Love Bites," "Bite Me," and "I Put A Spell On You." They're all available in paperback and ebook formats.

Hugs,
Giselle

Upping the Erotic Ante

When I first started reading erotic fiction all those years ago, I remember looking at the sexual interactions in some short stories and thinking, "Wowee! Them writers must be the most cre-ative people in the whole dag gum world!" (Apparently the voice in my head talks like Elly May Clampett)

I found it very easy to stumble upon very intriguing erotica. Fetishes. Weird stuff I'd never heard of or imagined. Encounters I wouldn't have thought constituted sex. It was all out there, and very easy to find. And I wondered, to some degree, what kind of deranged perverts wrote this stuff.

Well, my friends, I am one of them. Just call me a deranged pervert. Really. I won't take offense. I kind of like the title.

And now, on the other side of the rabbit hole, I know exactly why erotic fiction writers create such strange scenarios. The answer is simple: it's because we (short story writers in particular) are by necessity so prolific that after a year of writing, we've run out of "normal" ideas.

In an erotic short story, yes, characters are important, but they've got to have interesting sex. Emotional, sensual, erotic sex? Okay, yes, but...well, I'll use myself as an example. In the time I've been writing, I've had well over one hundred short stories published. I'm sure there are those who could write missionary position sex a hundred different ways and keep it interesting, but I don't have that kind of attention span.

I'm into the weird stuff now. Except, the thing is, when these ideas hit me they don't seem "weird." No, they seem "inspired."

So, what's on this list of sex acts I never would have imagined writing about five years ago? Well, I've recently written stories about:
  • a lesbian shoe fetishists getting fucked by the six-inch heel of a leather boot during a webcast for paying site members.
  • a harem of psychic lesbians you can rent by the half hour (pure fiction--we all know you can only rent them by the hour LOL)
  • Spankings (and scratchings) with a cat brush
  • a sex toy story in which a woman's lover straps her into a remote-controlled butterfly vibe and turns it on as she sits next to her husband on a plane
  • vampire lesbian knife play
  • a man with a God complex who keeps his "Eve" in a cage and fucks her through padded holes in the chicken wire
  • a denim fetish story in which a woman compels her husband to get her off on the seam of her tight jeans during a 1980's theme dance
  • a woman who's sexually attracted to apathy and dirty laundry
You know, now that it's down on paper, none of that seems particularly weird. Now, the stuff in my mind...whoa...that's another story. There's some extreme activity percolating.

But at least I've figured it out: we deranged perverts didn't start out this way. We (or at least I) started out writing sexy stories about co-workers acting on crushes, about curious apartment-dwellers getting it on with the bisexual superintendent. Hell, my very first e-book (The Birthday Gift) was about a simple small-town mom who...well, she stumbles upon a garden sex party hosted by her husband's foreman and sticks around to fuck a bunch of strangers on the deck...

Hmm...maybe I did start out a deranged pervert. Maybe that's what it takes to generate story after story in this genre. Maybe I just didn't notice until now.

*shrugs* I'm cool with that.

Giselle Renarde

Quick Six TNG with Amber Scott

1. What does "vanilla" mean to you?
Sugar cookies, bubble bath, favorite candles. Vanilla is a comfort scent and means relaxation and me time.

2. Is there any moment from your life that you remember in slow motion?
The birth of my daughter, my second born. My epidural failed at the last minute and as I was begging and screaming, the doctor fixed it. I was in such utter relief and ten minutes later, pushed my baby girl into the world. 9lbs 3oz of sweet huggable cheeks and thighs.

3. What's the most unsettling movie you've ever seen?
Boys Don't Cry. It was just so real life and so heart breaking. The longing to belong, the harsh judgements, it all broke my heart. Such tragedy so beautifully told. I love and hate that movie.

4. If you had to get a tattoo on your face, what would you want it to
look like?
Ooooh. Fun! I'd give myself a sexy cat eye type mask in the colors of peacock feathers.

5. How many monkeys jumping on the bed?
Three. Me and my two kidlets, much to daddy's chagrin. "It's going to break! You're gonna bang your head! Stop!"

6. Which of the books or stories you've written is your favourite?
My favorite always tends to be the one I'm working on, and so, yet to be published. But, with all the contests and reviews for Play Fling, I must say, I've fallen in love with the hero, Elliott, all over again.

Blurb: Playing cupid isn't a reward; it's Millie's punishment. If she doesn't find repressed, divorcee, Brooke, true love in the next thirty days, Millie'll lose the one thing in this life sentence worth fighting for, her partner. Just two problems: First, Millie sucks at matchmaking. Second, too young, too hot, Elliott keeps getting in Millie's way.

Clean and Safe (and Dirty): Blog Action Day 2010

Today is BLOG ACTION DAY 2010 and the topic this year is WATER.

As an environmentalist and supporter of humanitarian aid organizations like Ryan's Well, the provision of clean and safe drinking water for all the world is a key issue for me. If you are looking to support an organization that focuses on this key subset of humanitarian functions, I strongly recommend giving to Ryan's Well Foundation. It's a cause I've supported financially in the past, so this is real-life me-to-you advice.

Ryan's Well was started up by a Canadian boy who was only seven years old when he decided he was going to raise funds to build a well in a Ugandan village! Yes, you heard that right: seven years old! I'll leave you to read more about him at the Ryan's Well website and decide for yourself if you'd like to support his cause and tell your friends about what this tremendous kid has accomplished. http://www.ryanswell.ca

As for my blog action day post? Well, you know me: I write dirty stories. So when I saw that this year's topic was "Water" my mind jumped straight to what? Shower sex, of course! As a treat I figured I'd share with you a portion of my story "Shower Fittings" which appears in a wonderful new Cleis Press anthology called Smooth.

Be forewarned: this story is spicy. If you don't like explicit erotica, back away slowly! LOL

An excerpt from "Shower Fittings" by Giselle Renarde

The steam caressed Michelle’s caramel flesh like wafting rose-scented clouds, rising and dissipating into the white of the ceiling. Warm water pelted her chest, tempting her nipples to pique in readiness for Sterling’s touch. He stepped into the shower all man, his muscular abs gleaming even before the water kissed their perfect contours.

Her drenched nakedness called his cock to arms, ready for the war games, the friendly fire. Extending her hand in peace, she pulled him to her until her tits met his hard front. She kissed his chest, his neck, his full lips under the welcome assault of the shower like falling rain. All the while, she pumped his cock. She could never bring herself to tug him hard like he asked for. How could that feel good? No, her style was gentle all the way, slow and steady like Aesop always said.

Sterling grabbed her ass and squeezed. When he drew breath to speak, she knew what to expect. He’d noticed the effects of the cardio classes at the gym and the jogging three times a week. Tough some mornings, getting up at six, but the results were well worth the effort.

“Hard to believe this thing’s one hundred percent fiberglass,” he said.

Pardon me?

Pulling away to look her husband in the cool-casual eye, Michelle asked, “Baby, what’d you just call me?”

Without hearing her—or at least, without responding directly to her question—Sterling fondled the shower wall. “It’s all one piece. Isn’t that incredible? The tub, the wall, all the way up to the ceiling, it’s just one big molded sheet of fiberglass.”

Michelle rolled her eyes, not entirely amused, but not entirely put off. She circled her arms around him. “Honey-cake, while you’re going on and on about the shower, you are one hundred percent forgetting about the woman in the shower.” She planted kisses across his chest. “Naked in the shower.” Kissing up his neck to nibble at his ear, she teased, “You got your precious shower fittings, now how about fitting your precious wife with that big ‘ol cock, hmm?”

Sterling growled as she swiped his cockhead across her belly. Felt good, but the sensation would be better with suds.

As she reached for the soap, Michelle’s heel backed into an invisible pool of dried shampoo from the nearly-empty upside-down bottle on the tub’s ledge. She started to slip. She reached for the wall, but of course that was no help. The wall was solid and smooth. As she lost her balance, slipping backwards, Sterling tightened his grip around her waist and pulled her to his chest.

It happened so fast she didn’t even get a chance to shriek in terror, but it was enough to set her straight. Clinging to her husband’s firm black body, she cried, “I knew it. What did I tell you? I knew it. Didn’t I say?”

“You’re okay,” he consoled, like she was a child fallen from a bicycle. “I’ve got you in my arms. You’re okay.”

“I am most certainly not okay,” she said, releasing him to loosen the pool of dried shampoo with her big toe. Picking up the upside-down bottle, she squeezed its contents into her palm before replacing it, right-side-up, on the tub ledge. She forced the jasmine-scented shampoo into her hair. “All our marriage, you want one thing. You want to do me in the shower. I’ve done everything—everything—else there is to do because, let’s face it, I’m no prude. Still, all I hear from you is shower, shower, shower. I don’t want to do it in the shower, Sterling. I don’t feel safe. I could fall asleep and break my neck. Still, all I hear…”

“You’re worried you might fall asleep in the shower?” Sterling interrupted. A tentative grin broke like a rainbow across his lips.

Had she misspoken? Yes she had. She could laugh it off and kiss his lips, then his cock…and wind up smashing her head open on the faucet? No way. No mercy at times like these. “Fall and slip, I said. Not fall asleep. You’d better clean those big ears when you’re done with that big…”

Her gaze had fell to the danger zone. She couldn’t resist her husband’s cock, any time, any place. The temptation was right there, close enough to touch. But no. Not safe.

“Hey, what’d my big ears ever do to you?” he chuckled, running his hands down her backside.
His hard body exerted such a pull on her. “Hmm? What’d you say?”

“Maybe you ought to clean your ears out too, girl,” he laughed, tracing a soapy palm along his shaft. He knew she would watch if he did. Of course she would watch. That bad boy was spectacular. “You seem a little…distracted?”

“Hmm?” she repeated. He stroked it root to tip, letting his cockhead fall from his fingers just as the other hand prepared to catch it. A sly grin bled across his lips as he watched her watch him.

Without so much as rinsing her hair, Michelle grabbed hold of Sterling’s cock. When she pushed the shower curtain aside, he followed her to the bedroom. Her husband was like a dog so happy for its walk it overlooks the leash it’s on.

“Girl, you must be hungry for it. You didn’t even turn the water off!” he chuckled. She’d fallen so deep into lust that economic and environmental concerns escaped her.

“Oh,” she replied, almost like she might do something about that. She didn’t. Instead, she pushed his dripping-wet body down on the ottoman that used to match the dark green velvet chair. Now the chair was gone and the ottoman didn’t match anything, but they still found use for it.

He sat, leaning back, hands gripping the ottoman. His cock pointed to Michelle like a dowsing rod. I found the juice, it said. Mighty wet down there. Refresh yourself in that water, man. It’s all for you.

With shampoo dripping down her shoulders, Michelle climbed on board. She straddled her man—one knee on the ottoman, one foot on the floor—and heaved her body down on him. She wasn’t heavy, but he sure knew she was there. Her cunt was all around him, soaking and stroking his cock. When she moved on him, he moved in her. As she bounced and heaved, her tits swung before him like caramel temptations.

Holding the small of her back, Sterling curled toward her chest as she rose like an angel and fell like a demon. When he took her tits in his mouth and sucked those finest of nipples, she sighed his name. She proclaimed that she loved him…or she loved that… She loved something, anyway, and something’s better than nothing.

As Sterling sucked, she bounced faster, gearing up for the explosion that was soon to come. She could feel it right down to her toes. That big cock did it for her every time. Working her tits was a nice touch—showed the man cared—but Michelle knew she could come with no little encouragement than his cock in her pussy and the sound of wet thighs slapping.

He came before she did. She could see it in the magical contortions of his face, the way his lips twitched and his eyes rolled back in his head like he was having some kind of seizure. She wasn’t far behind. She was sure she looked like a million bucks when she had her orgasm. Of course, she never dared to glance over at the mirror when the time to come came, just in case she was wrong. Sometimes it was pleasanter living the lie.

Lifting her from the ottoman, cock in cunt, Sterling carried Michelle into the bathroom. She chuckled and called him crazy as he leaned her head under the running water to wash out her shampoo.

“Reach over slowly and close the taps,” he said.

She looked up at him like he had three heads. “You have got to be kidding me. I can’t do that. I’ll crack my skull.”

“Trust me. I’ve got you,” he whispered in that voice like dark velvet. “Anyway, it’s just fiberglass. You might bump your head, but you’re not going to crack anything.”

“Very reassuring,” she replied, pushing her voice flat. The taps really weren’t that far away. She reached out and shut them off quick as a bunny. Something bubbled inside her, and she looked up at Sterling in amazement. “I did it!”

“See?” he said, pulling her to his chest. She grabbed a towel as he carried her from the bathroom to the bedroom and tossed her onto the satin coverlet. She bounced against the mattress and chuckled in adoration. He kissed her legs. Crawling up her body, he said, “Nothing to be afraid of, except maybe that you’ll like it too much.”

Tell Me Something Good

Who doesn't love reveling in other people's good news?

Well, okay...some people don't, but I do! Tell me something good! Authors: New release? Great review? Signed a contract? Tell the world! Readers, picked up a copy of some awesome literature lately? Tell me!

Everybody: If there's something great you want to shout from the rooftops, leave me a comment. If you fell in love or climbed a mountain or finished that painting, I want to hear all about it!

I'll start: My latest and greatest news is that Jay Hartman at Untreed Reads, publisher of my shortie but goodie UGLY NAKED PEOPLE, came up with a wonderful way to help support LGBT Youthline.

(Remember how I'm raising money for this queer-positive peer-to-peer youth support organization? If you don't know what I'm talking about, check this out)

Anyhoo, when Jay heard that I'm donating my royalties from three of my e-books to LGBT Youthline, he wanted to get on board. Long story short, the weekend of Oct 29-Nov 1 2010 Untreed Reads and I are both featured at Rainbow eBooks and we're both donating our shares of sales of UGLY NAKED PEOPLE to LGBT Youthline!

Isn't that kick-ass? Thank you and big hugs to Jay Hartman and K.D. Sullivan at Untreed Reads for your support. You guys are awesome!

So that's my good news. What's yours?

Have a Thankful Thanksgiving, Canada

I just got back from a happy family Thanksgiving dinner, so my very full stomach and wine-saturated mind demand I keep this post brief, but there is a matter Thanksgiving-related I'd like to share with you.

We have a tradition in my family: apple-picking. Every Thanksgiving we head out of the city to the orchard and pick a big bag of apples fresh off the trees. This year was no exception, and we had a beautiful day for it.

As we were picking, though, one of my sisters looked up at a tree resplendent with apples and said, "Ever since I read Angela's Ashes, every time we come apple-picking I think of that scene where the boys go truant for the day and break into the apple orchard. They gorge on fruit and at the end of the scene the character says 'I wish we could feast like this every day.' I think about that and I feel so guilty because they had nothing. They had nothing."

And for a while, we were all quiet. We all seemed to look down ashamedly at our feet, but there were apples there too. I don't know about the rest of my family, but my next bite of golden delicious took me to heaven and hell and all points in between.

Quick Six TNG with G.R. Richards

1. What does "vanilla" mean to you?

G.R. Richards: In the world of erotica and erotic romance, I think of it as strictly heterosexual sex. What an old friend of mine used to call "penis-in-vagina sex." No kinks or fetishes. Probably missionary position. Characters are most likely in a committed relation. Maybe there's some tying each other to the headboard, but that's the extent of the play. I write gay erotica and erotic romance exclusively, so none of my work fits into this category...but I'm good with that.

2. Is there any moment from your life that you remember in slow motion?

G.R. Richards: YES! When I was a kid my family did Saturday morning chores. We'd take on the house room by room and hit it hard. One week we were all in the living room and my parents were working end to end dusting all the knick-knacks along the mantle. Well, on top of the mantle we had a big mirror propped up. It wasn't attached to the wall, just leaning against it. That was problematic. I don't know if it was mom or dad, but one of them must have nudged the mirror in just the wrong way because it started falling forward. THAT was a slow-motion moment: knowing the mirror was coming down and it was going to crash and shatter and there wasn't a damn thing we could do to stop it. The mirror came down and the smash was spectacular. Nobody was hurt, but I watched the expressions of horror on my parents' faces, and that was another slo-mo event. I couldn't tell if they were going to start laughing in a second, or if they'd start screaming at each other. Thank God they laughed! Well, seven years bad luck, but nothing anybody could do about it, so why not laugh?

3. What's the most unsettling movie you've ever seen?

G.R. Richards: The Ice Storm. No, The Squid and the Whale. Both. The Ice Storm--seen it? Thora Birch's teenage character tries to rape her friend's kid brother. Very uncomfortable to watch. The Squid and the Whale--I found it so unsettling to watch the younger brother masturbating by rubbing up against a bookshelf in the school library and then wiping his cum on a girl's locker.

4. If you had to get a tattoo on your face, what would you want it to look like?

G.R. Richards: A third eye. I could use some extra insight.

5. How many monkeys jumping on the bed?

G.R. Richards: Off the top of my head...I'd say...four. Not that there are monkeys on my head.

6. Which of the books or stories you've written is your favourite?

G.R. Richards: I love stories about families, especially supportive gay-friendly families. There are a lot of books about coming out and grappling with family dynamics in relation to one person's sexual identity. I prefer to write (somewhat fantastically, perhaps?) about other kinds of issues that arise within a family.

That's why I have a particular bond with my erotic romance THE BROTHERS OF HOGG'S HOLLOW. It's very much about family dynamics, and there are some hilarious kids in it. I love writing kids into a book--even I can't predict what they're going to say next!

The Brothers Of Hogg's Hollow
